Ruben Amorim urged to sign‘one of the best’Premier League stars at Man Utd to replace£180,000-a-week duo

Ruben Amorim has been urged to sign ‘one of the best’ Premier League defenders next summer to replace two departing Manchester United players.

Manchester United have experienced a mixed start under Ruben Amorim, who took charge of the club last month.

In his first five matches at the helm, the Reds have delivered a mixed set of results, with two wins, one draw, and two losses.

While far from the consistency fans would hope for, Amorim has made progress in implementing his new shape and ideas onto the team.

This early phase has provided the Portuguese coach with a valuable opportunity to closely assess the players within his squad to identify who aligns with his long-term vision.

One area many would consider to be strong at the club is central defence – with Lisandro Martínez, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro as strong options for the backline.

However, considering the back three that Amorim wants to operate with and the fact that Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans are likely to leave in the summer, there could be space for another top class addition.

Both Lindelöf and Evans see their contracts with the club expire at the end of the season and it is unlikely either player extends their stay. United would be getting around £180,000-a-week worth of wages off the books.

Former United defender Mikaël Silvestre has urged the club to sign Premier League and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to beef up the backline at Old Trafford.

“Marc Guehi should definitely be on Manchester United’s list as a long-term option in defence,” Silvestre told Boyle Sports.

“He almost went to Newcastle and is shining at Crystal Palace after proving himself to be one of the best defenders for one of the best nations in the world with England.

“What he is doing at Palace is proving he can be tested and perform week in and week out. I have been really impressed with his performances and I think he’d fit in really well with Ruben Amorim’s style of play.

“He is not shy of playing vertical passes and is always alert, he is strong, wins his duels and is good one on one, he’d fit in well at United.”
