After becoming a three-time standard elevation, Keshawn Banks has become a corresponding move.
The New England Patriots released the outside linebacker from the practice squad on Tuesday afternoon, creating a spot for the addition of recent Minnesota Vikings kicker John Parker Romo.
Banks, 24, reverted to the practice squad for the final time under NFL rules prior to the bye week. He had been called up for consecutive matchups against the Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts. A total of 61 snaps on special teams were handled over that span by the October signing. His workload in the kicking game tied for the club lead in back-to-back weeks.
Visiting Foxborough for a workout in September, Banks began the fall in the UFL ranks with the Michigan Panthers after clearing waivers at the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound San Diego State product entered the league with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He spent his rookie regular season on the practice squad and made his debut as a call-up for the NFC divisional round, seeing two snaps on defense and nine snaps on special teams. A futures contract followed at the end of January.
In additional transactions, the 3-10 Patriots activated interior offensive lineman Cole Strange from the physically unable to perform list after waiving veteran wide receiver K.J. Osborn.
The Arizona Cardinals host Sunday’s 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff at State Farm Stadium.
