Aston Villa bounced back to winning ways in the Champions League with a dramatic 3-2 victory against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.
The Villans travelled to the Red Bull Arena on 10 December and nicked all three points after Ross Barkley’s late deflected effort.
Lois Openda scored an equaliser to cancel out John McGinn’s opener, after an Emi Martinez error, before Jhon Duran came off the bench to score yet again.
Christoph Baumgartner scored an excellent goal to level scores once again for the home side which ultimately settled the scores in Germany.
It was a positive performance on the whole from Unai Emery’s side who will be frustrated with the defensive frailties that his side showed.
Here, Villa News rates the performances of Unai Emery’s side, with statistics provided by FotMob.

Aston Villa secure late win against RB Leipzig
Emi Martinez – 3
The Argentina international is typically so capable but that was far from the case, mainly in the first half against Leipzig. With just one save and one error leading to a goal, it was far from a vintage performance.
Ezri Konsa – 6
The England international looked positive on the whole despite a generally shaky performance from the backline. His 90 per cent pass accuracy is just typical of his game which Emery will appreciate.
Diego Carlos – 4
The Brazilian was poor and was partially to blame as Martinez let in the first equaliser of the night. His 0 per cent tackle success rate also won’t do much to please supporters or his manager.
Pau Torres – 5
Torres so nearly made a mistake that ultimately cost his side the game. Compared to Carlos, the Spaniard kept up a 100 per cent tackle and duel success which is certainly a plus.
Lucas Digne – 5
The 31-year-old came so close to scoring in the second half which was the main plus point about his performance which was otherwise quiet. With just three crosses and three passes into the final third, he would have expected better.
Matty Cash – 6
The Poland international looked positive on the right flank in place of Leon Bailey. Despite not getting on the scoresheet he did register three shots which is positive on the whole.
Boubacar Kamara – 5
Kamara didn’t have his greatest night in a Villa shirt but was solid nonetheless. Two tackles and seven duels won sums up his need in Emery’s side right now.
Youri Tielemans – 5
Similarly to his midfield partner, Tielemans didn’t have the best night but some of his driving runs forward certainly played a role and he can be pleased to have picked up an assist.
John McGinn – 7
McGinn opened the scoring and ultimately had a telling impact on the game with a 91 per cent pass accuracy and an overly positive performance which his manager and the fans will be pleased with.
Morgan Rogers – 6
The England international wasn’t quite at his best again but his ability to get on the ball and look forward certainly had a positive impact. He completed the most dribbles on the pitch with six which just sums up his game.
Ollie Watkins – 4
Being hooked at halftime basically sums everything up for Watkins at the moment. It just isn’t his time at the moment and it will hurt that Duran came on to have such a positive impact.
Substitutes
Jhon Duran – 8
The Colombia international just continues to shine on the big stage. After coming on as a substitute he scored a top-class goal and maintained a 100 per cent dribble success in his 45-minute showing.

Kosta Nedeljkovic – 5
Emi Buendia – N/A
Ian Maatsen – N/A
Ross Barkley – 7
They all count and Barkley won’t be turning down his first ever Champions League goal despite a wicked deflection. His 100 per**cent duel success rate and a winning goal, a perfect cameo from the Englishman.
