Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti provided an update on his forward Kylian Mbappe following a 3-2 win at Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Frenchman put the visitors 1-0 up inside 10 minutes with a sensational strike, but then asked to be taken off 25 later with what appeared to be a muscle injury.
Amid The Athletic reporting that Mbappe will undergo tests for a suspected thigh knock, Ancelotti spoke to Spanish broadcaster Movistar and was immediately asked how his number 9 is doing.
"He has an overload, a discomfort in the hamstring. We'll have to see in the next few days," Ancelotti answered.
"It doesn't seem serious, but he had to stop, because he couldn't sprint... it bothered him a little. So we have preferred to change him."
On the victory, Ancelotti said it was "important" and came from a "complicated match".
"We showed our best version: suffering, fighting, competing. [There was] great ball output and a good game from the forwards, with a lot of mobility. Everything has gone well. Obviously we have to suffer, winning here is not easy," he added, about the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.
With Atalanta capable of scoring an equalizer after pulling one back when Madrid led 3-1, Ancelotti claimed that this was because the Italian Serie A leaders "push a lot and force you to make lose possession".
"The team had the courage to press high up, we are very happy. It was a victory not only for the three points, but also emotionally."
On whether Jude Bellingham felt any discomfort because he was spotted putting his hand on his leg, and was hooked in Girona on Saturday, Ancelotti explained that his midfielder - who again netted in a sixth consecutive match - "was tired, nothing more".
"Although a lot. Atalanta demands a lot from you, but the team did a very strong job," he reiterated.
Madrid is now 18th in the UCL's league phase, and it was put to Ancelotti whether he still thinks it will be difficult to finish in the top eight which won't require having to play a playoff to advance to the last 16.
"It's still complicated, but we have two more games to get points and see where we get to. It is a triumph that allows us to be more positive," he reflected, about a vital triumph which also boosts morale ahead of Saturday's trip to Rayo Vallecano where a win can put Los Blancos top of La Liga.
