Todd Bowles Credits Lavonte David Halftime Speech

December 10th, 2024

Joe already wrote about Lavonte David setting a league speed mark Sunday against the Raiders.

But his strong game was about more than one play.

The 2024 Bucs’ leading tackler and iconic linebacker had a complete game — on and off the field.

“The sack was huge, the fumble [recovery] was huge — everything he did from a tackling standpoint, a leadership standpoint and an energy standpoint,” head coach Todd Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network today. “Even at halftime, coming out of the locker room, he was huge with a halftime speech. And everything just flowed right along; everybody falls right in line.”

David is reserved around media, but is fiery with teammates. So the rousing halftime speech doesn’t surprise Joe. However, the Bucs didn’t exactly come out strong in the third quarter, but hey, speeches are fun and can be motivating later in a game, too.

Bowles praised David’s first-quarter sack on which he wasn’t blocked, noting David’s standout acceleration. And Bowles sort of implied that he liked how David didn’t pull a Devin White.

“I’ve seen a lot of people miss those,” Bowles said of blitz-sack.

David is great at disguising blitzes, Bowles added, in addition to beating running backs and creating havoc when he does.
