Two years ago, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry added three wide receivers from the transfer portal, Da'Quan Felton, Ali Jennings, and Jaylin Lane. Felton and Lane were a big part of the Hokies' offense the last two seasons while Jennings showed flashes of the receiver he could be, but he battled a number of injuries.
Felton was a key target this season for quarterback Kyron Drones, Collin Schlee and Pop Watson and the former Norfolk State transfer spent two good seasons in Blacksburg and Tuesday night, he announced that he's turning pro.
Last season it was a quiet NFL Draft for the Virginia Tech program and that won't be the case this April despite a disappointing 6-6 season for the second straight season. Felton will be one Hokie who will look to catch on at the next level and Tuesday night, he announced on his Instagram account that he's declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft in April in Green Bay.
What does the future hold for Felton in terms of the Duke's Mayo Bowl on Jan. 3 against Minnesota, that remains to be seen, but he does have an invitation to the Senior Bowl next month.
This season Felton saw a dip in production with 32 receptions for 360 yards and two touchdowns. Last season he had 38 receptions in his first season at Tech for 667 yards and eight touchdowns. He had a huge 84-yard touchdown reception in their regular-season-ending win at Virginia that allowed Virginia Tech to become bowl-eligible. This season against the Cavaliers he had two catches for 50 yards, including a 42-yard catch from Watson. He had a 55-yard touchdown catch on Oct. 5 at Stanford to help the Hokies pull away for a 31-7 victory out in California.
