This NBA owner says he wants to buy the Saints if Gayle Benson ever sells the team

Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta told the Houston Business Journal's Chandler France that he would be interested in purchasing the team from current owner Gayle Benson.

Benson, 77, has owned the team since her husband, Tom Benson, died in 2018. She is not in the process of selling the team and the franchise is not currently on the market, but that didn't stop Fertitta from expressing his love for the Saints.

"I've always loved the New Orleans Saints, but [Benson] won't sell them right now," Fertitta told France.

He also said he "hasn't sent an official offer" to Benson but has "told her of his interest."

Fertitta has previously shown interest in owning an NFL team and was reportedly interested in buying the Washington Commanders in 2023 before being outbid by current owner Josh Harris.

"I'll be flat out honest, I made a bid on the Washington Commanders for $5.6 billion," Fertitta said in an interview with CNBC in 2023. "That's the value that Forbes had them at, and at some point you've got to draw a line in the sand on everything and that's where we are.
