The college football regular season has come to a close, and now fans are looking forward to tuning in to the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff (CFP).
In the meantime, NFL mock drafts continue to be released, predicting where the top prospects will land. For many of those players, they've either played their final collegiate game or have one more left to put their talent on display.
CBS Sports' Mike Renner released his latest NFL mock draft on Tuesday, with Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward near the top of the board, as expected. However, he wasn't the Renner's pick to go No. 1.
Instead, Renner predicted Ward would land at No. 2 for the New York Giants, with Colorado's Shedeur Sanders going No. 1 for the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Giants recently parted ways with their former starting quarterback, 2019 No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones, leaving Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito in the quarterback room.
Neither player is seen as a long-term solution. Lock is now on his third team in five years, and his struggles with the Denver Broncos led to the team trading for Russell Wilson. DeVito, meanwhile, entered the league as an undrafted free agent.
The logical move for the Giants is to use their top draft pick in April to secure their quarterback of the future.
"Cam Ward is the complete opposite end of the aggressiveness spectrum from Daniel Jones," Renner wrote. "That will be a sight for sore eyes for Giants fans. His top-tier arm talent will pair perfectly with the likes of Malik Nabers."
Malik Nabers, the team's first-round pick in 2024, is already emerging as a potential No. 1 wide receiver. Nabers is earning $29.2 million, and for the Giants, having both a quarterback and a wide receiver performing at a high level while still on rookie contracts would be an ideal scenario.
If the Raiders take Shedeur Sanders at No. 1, the Giants could have the opportunity to grab the unquestioned top quarterback prospect on the board.
