FC Barcelona is looking for a new left-back, but it likely won’t be Alphonso Davies as previously rumored.
Davies is thought to be most likely to renew at Bayern Munich, or perhaps move to Real Madrid. But the chances of him joining Barcelona seem to be quite low.
The Catalans are still wary about cost, but the position has become a problem. Alejandro Balde is well-regarded but the team needs depth at least, or even a player good enough to take the post from him. That’s according to a rumor which says that despite the problems at the position, a new signing in January is unlikely.
In the meantime, Barcelona have depended on Gerard Martín and Héctor Fort, neither of whom has performed to an amazing level. Martín is nearly 23 and done all right at times, but Barcelona need an upgrade. Fort is younger, only 18, and they see him as a future talent, but not ready to carry that much responsibility.
Álex Valle is on loan to Celtic FC and could be a potential solution, although the board is not fully convinced of that.
In the future, Barcelona will need to look at how their young players are developing and may be forced to spend money to find a solution at this position.
