Cowboys Need to Add Veteran WR Who Just Became Available

The Dallas Cowboys are 5-8 on the season after they were handed a crushing 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.

Dallas' chances of making the playoffs this season are less than 1%, according to NFL.com. The Cowboys roster has a lot of holes, but following the loss in Week 14, an ideal WR target became available.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Pats are waiving WR K.J. Osborn on Tuesday. This decision was mutual, as Osborn seeks to get more playing time elsewhere.

He signed with the Patriots this offseason on a one-year, $4 million deal but failed to produce the way he imagined. Osborn logged 232 total snaps for the Pats but didn't play in the last three games.

Even though the Cowboys season appears to be over, they should put in a waiver claim to bring in the 27-year-old WR. CeeDee Lamb is the only consistent receiver on the team. No other WR has more than 451 receiving yards this season so adding Osborn to the fold could be worth a shot.

Last month, the Cowboys traded for Jonathan Mingo, but he's been a complete non-factor (two catches for 11 yards).

They also know that Brandin Cooks is likely to depart this offseason, while Jalen Tolbert is still a young WR trying to elevate his game. Bringing in Osborn would give the Cowboys another reliable weapon in the aerial attack.

In his NFL career, he's reeled in 165 catches for 1,902 receiving yards and 16 scores. From 2021-2023 with the Minnesota Vikings, Osborn finished with 540-plus yards with at least three touchdowns.

He would provide Dallas with another receiver who would take some type of pressure off Lamb and open things up on offense. The Cowboys need to start thinking ahead and adding Osborn at this point of the season could be worth a dart throw. He's going to be a free agent this offseason but bringing him in four games for an audition could be wise for the 2025 outlook.
