Amid split rumours, Trump finds job for son’s fiancee
US president-elect Donald Trump has appointed the fiancee of one of his sons as his ambassador to Greece – just hours after pictures emerged of his son holding hands with another woman.
Kimberly Guilfoyle has been engaged to Donald Trump jr since 2021 – although there are widespread reports their relationship is over.
A former Fox News personality, Guilfoyle was also prominent in Trump senior’s presidential election campaign and is close to the wider Trump family.
“For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally. Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday (US time).
“Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defence cooperation to trade and economic innovation.”
The decision was made public only hours after paparazzi photos of 46-year-old Trump jr and 38-year-old Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson were spread across US media as they celebrated her birthday.
Trump Jr and Guilfoyle, 55, have not officially split – although it is apparently no secret in Florida circles.
“Don and Kimberly haven’t been getting along over the past year. They get argumentative at Mar-a-Lago in front of people. Nothing crazy, but you know when a couple is fighting. They bicker in public,” a source recently told Page Six.
Another insider said: “Bettina and Don have been together for a few months, and are super cute and happy together. It’s just a natural fit – everyone is happy for them.”
Guilfoyle was previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom before moving onto Trump Jr. in 2018.
She was an assistant district attorney in San Francisco and Los Angeles before beginning her media career, which led to a role as co-host of Fox News’ The Five.

Since abruptly leaving Fox in 2018, Guilfoyle has been Trump’s campaign finance chair during his 2020 presidential bid and a key witness to events leading up to the US Capitol attack on January 6, 2021. She also helped raise money for organisers ahead of a “Stop the Steal” rally on January 6.
“I’m honoured to accept President Trump’s nomination to serve as the next Ambassador to Greece and I look forward to earning the support of the US Senate,” she wrote in a statement on X.
“As ambassador, I look forward to delivering on the Trump agenda, supporting our Greek allies, and ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity.”
Her appointment, which would involve her handling foreign affairs, must be confirmed by the US Senate.
Trump jr also posted on X in support of Guilfoyle.
“I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First,” he said.
Guilfoyle is far from the first appointment linked to his family that Trump senior has made as he prepares to return to the White House next month.
Real estate developer Charles Kushner – his daughter Ivanka’s father-in-law – will be the next US ambassador to France while billionaire Massad Boulos – the father-in-law of Trump’s youngest daughter Tiffany– will be his senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.
