Ben Brereton Diaz is yet to win a Premier League match across two spells
SAINTS forward and summer signing Ben Brereton Diaz is on the verge of equalling an unfortunate and unwanted Premier League record.
Brereton Diaz, 25, has made 24 appearances across two spells in the Premier League since he signed for Sheffield United on loan from Villarreal in January.
This means he already holds the record for most Premier League appearances without ever winning in the competition, drawing six and losing 18.
He surpassed Marvin Sordell, who played 17 times for Burnley and Bolton but never celebrated three points, after the 3-0 defeat to Man United.
In history, only Oliver Burke had to wait longer for his first Premier League win than Brereton Diaz, going 25 matches with West Brom and Blades.
Should Saints fail to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Brereton Diaz will be 25 without victory and pull level with the Scot in the league's history books.

The record would add insult to injury for £7million Brereton Diaz, who was left as an unused substitute in the club's only league win of the season.
Saints beat Everton 1-0 at St Mary's on November 2, one of only five matches in which the Chilean international has not played this campaign.
Although the Saints have good home form against Spurs, history does not look too favourably to Brereton Diaz's hopes of avoiding the record.
Tottenham are unbeaten in 13 matches against sides starting the day bottom (W10 D3), scoring 42 goals and netting at least three in the last eight.
Spurs captain Son Heung-min has scored more goals (10) against Saints than he has any other league opponent, while he has also provided five assists.
Despite spectacularly scoring five minutes into his friendly debut against Lazio, Brereton Diaz is yet to score or assist in a competitive game for Saints.
He started the first four matches of the season but has been reduced to substitute appearances since, playing less than 60 minutes in the last five combined.
