There was a surprise appearance on this week’s WWE NXT as former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was randomly backstage talking to Lexis King in a quick segment.
King said that Leaf was the one who gave him the advice to go to Minneapolis for NXT Deadline (note: which didn’t accomplish anything, really, as King didn’t have a match on the card or anything). He also hyped up Leaf’s accomplishments, and Leaf did the same back, calling King relatable and an inspiration.
They were then interrupted by Charlie Dempsey, who said that he’s decided to give King a shot at the NXT Heritage Cup in two weeks (effectively a Christmas gift) so long as King can make it through a workout with Dempsey first (assumed to take place next week)
This is a rematch, wherein the last time, King struggled to find someone to be in his corner until William Regal strangely filled in that spot, opposite his son.
