Whether former prime minister Najib Razak is entitled to serve the rest of his halved jail sentence**on house arrest instead of in prison**is a widely-discussed issue, except it seems amongst those who matter.
This week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declined to comment on the existence of a royal decree allowing Najib to serve his remaining prison sentence at home, citing sub judice as the courts deliberate Najib’s petition. The Sultan of Pahang, who is said to have issued such a decree**via an addendum to the Pardons Board**when he was King, has also said he will not be issuing any statement on the matter.
In other news, a royal inquiry into**Malaysia’s decision to drop its request**to the International Court of Justice to review the decision to hand Pedra Branca to Singapore has found that ex-PM Mahathir Mohamad should be investigated for cheating. Datuk Seri Anwar has claimed the probe revealed “major treachery”. Tun Dr Mahathir has shot back, saying that if he was a traitor, then so was his Cabinet which agreed to the decision, which included then deputy PM Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Mr Anwar’s wife.
