NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Margie Stewart has given 30 years to serving others, helping those in need as a case manager for the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter.
But Tuesday night (Dec. 10), her selflessness was recognized and rewarded by a selfless Saints star. The Tyrann Mathieu Foundation surprised her with two tickets to Super Bowl LIX during Tyrann Mathieu’s Annual Christmas Blessing.
“Baby, I’m going to the Super Bowl,” Stewart said. “For the very first time, I’m going to the game. I’m going to take my son.”
Stewart described herself as a die-hard Who Dat.
“I’m a Saints fan girl,” she said. “Don’t see all these tats on me? Fleur-de-lis ... Saints all the way.”
Mathieu said, “I’m excited about it. She’s a huge football fan. The Super Bowl’s in our backyard this year.”
The room practically shook when the Saints star showed up at the shelter.
“The kids were so excited. I really thought they was about to turn the tables over,” Stewart said.
Mathieu said Stewart deserves every bit of praise.
“The love and all the great stories that I’ve heard about her, and all the sacrificing. Her commitment to these families,” Mathieu said. “I just get a good joy out of seeing other people, you know, happy. It’s all part of the journey for me.”
Stewart said, “It’s a good feeling to help people that’s less fortunate. I was homeless myself before, so I know how this feels.”
