Algeria and Oman released statements Tuesday condemning Israel’s seizure of a demilitarized buffer zone in Syria's Golan Heights following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
In a written statement, the Algerian Foreign Ministry expressed its firm opposition to Israel's recent action, which it described as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty.
"Algeria strongly condemns the Zionist entity’s (Israel’s) decision to terminate the Disengagement of Forces Agreement and seize the buffer zone in the occupied Golan, thus violating Syria’s sovereignty, and launching attacks on its territory," the statement said.
The ministry accused the Israeli military of exploiting Syria's current situation to impose a new fait accompli aligned with its "expansionist and settlement-focused policies."
Algeria also denounced the Israeli army's intensified attacks on Syrian facilities and institutions in recent weeks.
Reaffirming its unwavering support for Syria’s unity, territorial integrity and legitimate right to reclaim the occupied Golan Heights in accordance with international law, Algeria urged the global community to take collective action to protect Syria’s sovereignty and security.
The Foreign Ministry of Oman also released a statement condemning Israel's occupation of the Golan Heights, accusing the Israeli army of exploiting recent developments to violate Syria’s sovereignty.
"Oman condemns Israel’s continued military bombardments of Damascus and other areas, alongside its occupation of new parts of Syrian territory within the buffer zone, which constitutes a clear violation of the Disengagement of Forces Agreement," said the statement.
The ministry said these actions add to Israel’s long record of crimes in the region, underscoring the country’s aggressive policies and its ongoing efforts to undermine international legitimacy.
Oman called on the international community to address these violations and ensure the preservation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his army on Sunday to capture the buffer zone in the Golan Heights, an area under Israel’s occupation for decades.
Images released by the Israeli military showed soldiers and armored vehicles in the zone, further consolidating Israel’s hold on the region.
Assad and his family fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of the capital Damascus early Sunday, marking the collapse of the Baath Party regime, which had been in power in Syria since 1963.
