Liverpool got the job done against Girona on Tuesday, coming through a difficult game to win 1-0.
The victory was a sixth out of six for the Reds in this season’s Champions League and left them on the cusp of qualification for the last 16.
It was not an easy evening in Girona, though, as a lethargic looking Liverpool team struggled past their Spanish opposition.
Part of the reason they may have struggled a little was due to the absence of Alexis Mac Allister.
Mac Allister picked up a booking last time out in the Champions League against Real Madrid and was suspended for Tuesday’s game as a result.
Given that the Argentine will also miss Saturday’s Premier League tie with Fulham through suspension, Mac Allister was given some free time to go on holiday this week. But the 25-year-old still found time to watch the Reds.

Alexis Mac Allister supports Reds from Austria
Liverpool have rarely had to make do without Mac Allister this season.
The game against Girona was actually the first time the No.10 has not appeared in a Liverpool match during 2024/25.

And the Reds did miss his creativity between the lines, with a midfield of Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai lacking the guile Mac Allister brings to proceedings.
Nevertheless, Mac Allister took to his Instagram stories to show that he was still with Liverpool in spirit on Tuesday, despite previously posting updates from St. Moritz in Austria.

“Come on boys,” wrote the World Cup winner, sharing a photo of the match in action and tagging in Liverpool’s official account for good measure.
It remains to be seen whether Mac Allister will be present at Anfield for Saturday’s game.
Who will play on Saturday for Liverpool?
Liverpool’s midfield on Tuesday is not one that hasn’t played together before.
However, it should be clear to everyone who watches the Reds regularly that Mac Allister should always be part of their best trio.
Without him on Saturday, it seems likely that Arne Slot will plump for Jones, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai yet again.
Should he want to go a different way, though, Wataru Endo scored a stunner in this game last season, while Harvey Elliott built more fitness with a 14-minute cameo in Girona.
There are options for Slot without Macca, but he’ll be keen to get the little man back next week.
