Last week, ESPN revealed that former Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss had to take a leave of absence from his job as an analyst for "Sunday NFL Countdown" as he was dealing with a personal issue.
"[Randy Moss will] step away from 'Sunday NFL Countdown' for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge," ESPN wrote in a statement.
The news of Moss' departure from ESPN came shortly after the former Marshall standout revealed he was dealing with a health condition. Moss announced the news on an Instagram post, which included a video while he was on the show's set.
Moss chose not to reveal what his illness was, but he did have a recommendation for all men, asking them to get their check-ups and get their blood work done. The Hall of Famer also requested that "all the prayer warriors put their blessed hands on me and my family through these hard times."
However, on Tuesday night, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the dad of Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald Jr., learned of Moss' health condition while he was in Las Vegas for the 66th NFF Hall of Fame Ceremony. He revealed on X that Moss is battling liver cancer.
"66th NFF Hall of Fame Ceremony here in Las Vegas just heard that Vikings HOF Randy Moss has liver cancer," Fitzgerald wrote in his post. "Let's show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this. I love you Randy."
Moss' son, Thaddeus Moss, who spent two seasons in the NFL as a tight end, showed his clear disapproval of Fitzgerald Sr. disclosing such private information, especially since his father wouldn't reveal his illness himself. He took to social media to call out Fitzgerald Sr. for his decision to make it public.
"This is disgusting," Thaddeus Moss wrote on X. "You have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of engagement. I do not believe my father talks to you, so check your (expletive) sources."
Randy Moss spent 14 seasons in the NFL and became one of the best wide receivers the league has ever seen. He still holds the record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season with 23, which came in 2007 when he played alongside Tom Brady in New England.
The Hall of Famer is also second in career receiving touchdowns (156), fourth in career receiving yards (15,292) and 16th in catches (982).
Thaddeus Moss, on the other hand, helped lead the LSU Tigers to a national championship during the 2019 season. He went undrafted in the NFL and played in 2020 and 2021 with the Washington Football Team and Cincinnati Bengals before retiring from football in May 2024.
