Sandro Tonali could sensationally be sold to help Newcastle United combat FFP/PSR pressures.
That is according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, who claim AC Milan would be open to re-signing the midfielder. Newcastle stumped up over £50million to sign the 24-year-old last year and his struggles are well documented.
Tonali missed the bulk of his first season after being slapped with a 10-month ban for breaching betting regulations. His offence predated his time on Tyneside and scuppered United’s season, with Toon chiefs spending most of their summer budget to bring him from the San Siro.
Eddie Howe has sporadically used the midfielder since returning - leading some to question his St James' Park future. Recent weeks have seen Tonali deployed as a defensive midfielder - a move that has produced improved performances.
Newcastle fans have witnessed glimpses of Tonali’s brilliance and are hoping to see him forge a key midfield partnership with Bruno Guimaraes. Once billed as one of Europe’s top prospects, outings for Italy have given Toon supporters hope that better days are ahead.

“I think when a player trains all week without his ultimate goal, which is the game, he finds a sense of emptiness within himself. It wasn’t easy to be away from home for the first year without playing an official game, but just trying to maintain fitness. That was the challenge I had to take as seriously as possible.”
