Man United could be tempted to sell high-earning striker for FFP reasons

Manchester United are reportedly reflecting on the future of Marcus Rashford who is one of the club’s highest earners.

The England international is a youth product of the club and has been part of the first team since 2016. But his previous campaigns have been marred by inconsistent runs.

Therefore, some believe his performances do not justify his lucrative wages. The 27-year-old currently earns £300,000 per week. Only Casemiro has a higher salary at Man United (£350,000).

So according to Sky Sports Germany, the club’s hierarchy could decide to sell Rashford, prompted by financial reasons.

The report claims the player’s future is currently being discussed internally, and they might even consider a January divorce.

This would align with the expense-cut strategy implemented by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. In a recent interview, the club’s co-owner emphasized the importance of reducing expenses, suggesting that the Red Devils cannot survive without making this drastic strategic change.

Manchester United could be willing to split with Marcus Rashford

Hence, the source believes Rashofrd could pay the price for this newly adopted policy. The Englishman’s sale wouldn’t only reduce the wage bill, but it would also constitute a pure capital gain, considering that the player is a youth product of the club.

The report notes that the striker’s improving form under newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim hasn’t gone unnoticed. However, it might not prove sufficient to salvage the player’s United career.

This season, Rashford has made 23 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals in the process, while also providing his teammates with three assists.

The Manchester native’s contract with the Red Devils runs until June 2028 having last penned an extension back in the summer of 2023.
