Current Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen revealed his soft spot for Liverpool despite his childhood preference for Manchester United. Verstappen sealed his fourth consecutive Championship despite driving the third-best car on the grid for this year’s constructor championship.
Despite Verstappen’s preference towards Man United, the Dutch driver has a good friendship with the Reds captain Virgil van Dijk. The 27-year-old has keenly followed the Reds as the club currently has many of his fellow Dutch personals involved.
Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot is a Dutch with a strong reputation for his impressive work with Feyenoord. Slot has installed his style of play while keeping the philosophy that Jurgen Klopp built at the club.

Klopp also received praise from Verstappen in the previous interview where the Dutch driver highlighted his accomplishment. The German Liverpool legend will start a new role as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH.
Speaking to Mirror Sport, Verstappen highlighted the soft spot he has for Liverpool and his relationship with Van Dijk. He said:
“I just like to stay in touch. Of course, I like to see the Dutch national team do well. Virgil keeps inviting me to come to a game and I will definitely do it. I’m not that idiot that hates another club. When I see Virgil play or Cody, when they do well at Liverpool, that excites me as well. When they’re leading in the league, I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s great’.”
Verstappen has a lot in common with Liverpool as the Dutchman faced inconsistencies in the FIA’s decision-making this year. The Red Bull driver also highlighted the bias that the British media displays consistently, antagonising him while hyping their favourites.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans have voiced their concern over the role of Sky Sports in diminishing the contributions of legendary forward Mohamed Salah. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher recently received a lot of criticism for ignoring Salah anytime he talks about the best players in the league.

Carragher is a former Liverpool player and his constant fights with the fanbase further highlight the problems between the British media and the club. Furthermore, the Reds have consistently faced problems with scheduling and officiating with a recent episode involving now-sacked referee David Coote.
