What Nicolas Jackson was doing on the bench after being subbed off during Chelsea's 4-3 win over Tottenham

Of all the high-quality attacking performances that were on display from Chelsea players, one of their starters was notably off the pace for the London derby against Tottenham.

Nicolas Jackson struggled to get anything going in attack for the Blues, as they dug deep to fight back from 2-0 down to eventually win 4-3.

The Senegal international has been in the business of proving people wrong pretty much ever since this season began. Harry Redknapp believes that Jackson is way better than he first thought.

Nicolas Jackson gutted to be subbed during Chelsea’s win over Tottenham

While Jackson was quick to grab the ball after Cole Palmer’s equalising penalty to get on with things, he was unable to take his limited chances in front of goal to add to his eight Premier League goals so far this season.

Enzo Maresca replaced him with Christopher Nkunku as they chased a win on Sunday, and although they were able to turn things around, it was clear it was not all positive for Jackson.

A video posted to Twitter shows the striker with his head against the seat in front of him, unable to even watch the game.

The 23-year-old was clearly gutted with how he performed, and the competition for places is something that the players will be more than aware of.

Jackson’s place in the Chelsea side under pressure

Nkunku was named in the Premier League Team of the Week for his performance against Southampton, in what was just his second league start of the campaign.

The Frenchman has found it difficult to displace Jackson in the side so far, however his strong displays in Europe this season have kept him in the manager’s thinking for sure.

Nkunku is reportedly frustrated with his minutes so far this season, however it feels like he is primed to take his chance whenever he is finally given one.

This is clearly worrying for Jackson, who will be looking to bounce back with a strong performance if he is named in the starting side for the home game against Brentford at the weekend.
