Gunners now linked with Ashworth

Dan Ashworth is the latest name to be linked with the position of Sporting Director at Arsenal.

Manchester United paid ₤3 million to Newcastle United to secure his services in the summer, only for him to leave the job after just five months., Although it has been dressed-up as a decision by mutual consent, his dismissal from the post at United appears to have been driven by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, due to a lack of chemistry between the two man.

Ashworth, though, is highly regarded in football, and knows Managing Director Richard Garlick well, having both spent time at West Bromwich Albion together earlier in their careers.

The fact also that Ashworth is available now, and does not have to serve a period of gardening leaves makes him an attractive proposition to the Gunners, as does the fact that they will not have to pay any compensation to bring him on board.

Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
