Liverpool continued their winning start to the Champions League with a narrow 1-0 victory over Spanish side Girona on Tuesday night.
The Reds have set the pace in the Premier League and in Europe with Arne Slot’s side sitting top of both tables.
After a disrupted weekend due to Storm Darragh, Liverpool were going into their game in Spain fresh having not played over the weekend.
Even Rio Ferdinand admitted Liverpool are his pick for the Champions League having taken 18 points from their six games.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s fixtures, Liverpool have opened up a five-point gap in the European standings.
And this all comes following what could have proven to be a tricky campaign after the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold wowed by Liverpool manager Arne Slot
Speaking ahead of the game to TNT Sports, Trent Alexander-Arnold was speaking about the changes he’s noticed between Jurgen Klopp and Slot.
Liverpool fans may have been devastated to see Klopp depart but there can be no arguing with the results this season.
And Alexander-Arnold has been left so impressed with the tactics which Slot has brought over from his time in the Eredivisie.
“The style in which he coaches and the style in which he has us playing and the identity we’ve got as a team is something that is there to see,” he said.
“And I think the lads have bought into it from day one. Of course, his tactics are mind-blowing, if I’m honest.”
This comes amid the contract sagas unravelling on Merseyside with a belief Manchester City could make a move for Alexander-Arnold next summer.
Slot did not enjoy Liverpool’s performance vs Girona
The Reds may have collected another three points on Tuesday night, but Slot did not get the performance from his players that he would have wanted.
Slot was concerned with how many chances Liverpool conceded with the Reds coming away with a narrow 1-0 victory.
“I almost feel sorry for them because they deserved so much more in this Champions League campaign than the three points they have until now,” Slot said.
🗣️ "I'm far from pleased with the performance"

Girona’s solid display could also be seen as Liverpool fans hailed the performance of Alisson Becker as he somehow managed to keep a clean sheet.
The Reds have been superb so far this season, but perhaps Tuesday night highlighted some of their vulnerabilities.
