Tottenham interest growing in Turkish ace on Liverpool radar

Liverpool have some chinks in their armour to consider dealing with as the January transfer window comes around in order to strengthen themselves for the second half of the season, which may turn out to be a historic one for them.

However, they are set to face fierce competition in the Premier League for one of their versatile targets.

As reported by TBR Football, Tottenham are monitoring Galatasaray’s Barış Alper Yılmaz, who is also on Liverpool’s radar.

The 24-year-old is a multi-faceted wide operator capable of occupying either flank both as a fullback and a winger. Likened to Gareth Bale, he emerged as an exciting attacking option from deep in defence as he helps his side reclaim the Süper Lig title this season.

The Türkiye international has seven goals and an assist for the reigning Süper Lig champions from 22 appearances this season. Valued by Transfermarkt at €21 million, he currently has at the club an €800k-per-year contract set to run until June 2027.

In the Premier League, apart from Liverpool and Tottenham, Yılmaz is also being monitored by West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Everton.

An understandable pursuit

Tottenham need reinforcement out wide both in the forward and defence slots, so their interest in Yılmaz is understandable.

This looks like a move Liverpool are unlikely to make. You can never really say never, of course, but they are well-stacked in the positions Yılmaz can apply even with Salah’s contract running down and Andy Robertson being considered for replacement. For both of these players, Liverpool would rather go for two different profiles of players.

However, if Liverpool were to consider cutting their losses on Federico Chiesa, a move for Yılmaz would suddenly become a lot more appealing to them.
