Paul Mitchell is shaking things up at Newcastle United, as the Magpies look towards what will hopefully be a better 2025 in terms of transfers.
2024 has been extremely difficult for Newcastle United, with PSR stopping the club from seriously enhancing their squad without cashing in on a major star.
Eddie Howe has not been able to strengthen his starting XI, and now Newcastle United are becoming stale.
That needs to change in 2025, as Paul Mitchell sets about altering the Magpies’ transfer approach.

The Newcastle United sporting director is eager to change the club’s recruitment strategy, as he aims to cast a wider net on the type of players they are targeting.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United are looking at more young players from across Europe, rather than possible deals for Premier League players who are already established and ultimately cost more money.
The Telegraph add that while the Magpies are looking further afield, they are not totally turning a blind eye to domestic options. They will still target domestic players who are in the final 18 months of their contract, as their value will be decreasing.
Marc Guehi falls into that category. Newcastle pursued him all summer, with Crystal Palace wanting the Magpies to pay way over the odds for an established Premier League name and England’s best player at Euro 2024.

Newcastle want to avoid that type of deal, but Guehi could still be an option for the Magpies, as he enters the final 18 months of his Crystal Palace contract.
How many domestic players Newcastle United have signed since PIF takeover
Since PIF bought the club and became the Newcastle United owners, there have been a lot of domestic deals.
Eddie Howe has heavily favoured deals for players playing in England, whilst sprinkling in foreign recruits such as Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak.
Since the takeover, Newcastle have signed 20 senior players, 13 of which have come from domestic clubs.
The pendulum could soon swing in favour of foreign recruits, as Mitchell aims to end Newcastle’s PSR nightmare by bringing in players from further afield who will cost less.
It has been reported that Newcastle are interested in Johan Bakayoko, while players like Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo are simply going to be too expensive. Elsewhere, Newcastle have scouted Baris Alper Yilmaz, who plays for Galatasaray in Turkey.
