Vincent Kompany has done a fine job at getting the best out of the majority of the players in the current squad at Bayern Munich. The Belgian coach has focussed on using several players in their best position, but Konrad Laimer had to be content in a different role this season.
The Austrian midfielder has largely played in the right-back position for Bayern under Kompany. Laimer scored the equalizer against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday as he continued his fine run of form. He has excelled in this position and helped Die Roten to see out the phase when both right-backs in the squad were injured.
Laimer’s quality performances under Kompany are attracting interest from the Premier League. According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are impressed with Laimer’s performances this season. The Red Devils are keeping tabs on the Austrian midfielder.
Despite closely following Laimer, Manchester United are not planning a move for him in January, as they have other transfer targets in mind for the winter transfer window. Laimer is also content with life in Munich and has no plans to leave Bavaria anytime soon.
Meanwhile, SportBild's Christian Falk has also confirmed Manchester United's interest in the Austrian midfielder.

Konrad Laimer may not light up the world on the pitch for Bayern, but he is a crucial member of the squad. The Austrian works hard off the ball as he is a relentless presser. Even though his passing range is not expansive, he can make a good impact with the ball in central midfield and right-back positions.
The Austrian’s versatility provides tactical flexibility to Vincent Kompany. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Laimer makes 40 appearances for Bayern this season (currently on 18 appearances across all competitions). It will be a big surprise if Bayern sell him in the summer. The Austrian will not force a transfer since he is content with fighting for game time in Munich.
Manchester United helped Bayern Munich significantly in the summer by boosting their transfer budget. The Red Devils signed Mathijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern. The Bavarian club also received a part of the fee from Joshua Zirkzee’s move from Bologna to Manchester United. Die Roten had inserted a sell-on fee clause in Zirkzee’s move to the Italian club two years ago.
The Old Trafford side may sign more players from Bayern in the next couple of transfer windows. Along with Laimer, Manchester United have reportedly shown interest in Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane, and Alphonso Davies.
Sane and Davies can be signed on free transfer deals in the summer if they don’t sign new deals with Bayern. Meanwhile, Die Roten are open to selling Goretzka in the summer. It does look like there could be a lot of transfer activity between Bayern and Manchester United in the summer.
