Rúben Amorim is said to be failing to help one of Manchester United’s high-scoring stars this season, who could now be set for a transfer out of Old Trafford.
Rúben Amorim is getting to grips with his Manchester United squad, having managed five games across two competitions with his new team.
A win in the Europa League has been joined by mixed form in the Premier League, where the side thrashed Everton 4-0, but lost to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest while drawing with Ipswich Town.

Amorim has so far issued a policy of rotation, with five or six changes being made to each of the XIs he has chosen, with the manager explaining that he wants key players rested in order to have time to train on the pitch.
One extra positive consequence of his rotation policy is many of his injured players have now returned, with only Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, and Toby Collyer currently out injured.
Amorim is ‘failing’ Rashford
Marcus Rashford has started goalscoring life well under Amorim, having scored three goals in his opening five appearances for the 39-year-old, taking his season total up to seven, adding three assists to that tally too.
However, he has been criticised for his overall performances, and former United coach Rene Meulensteen has explained that Amorim is failing to help Rashford by not letting him have a run of games to find form.
“Ruben Amorim needs to make it clear to Marcus Rashford of what he expects from him,” he told Lucky Block. “All players need confidence – if he plays a lot and starts scoring goals then he’ll find his confidence again. He needs to stay in the same position and rebuild his form.
“However, from what I’ve seen so far – and I don’t know whether Amorim does it on purpose – but he keeps moving and changing Rashford’s position in the team. The system is the same but it always appears to be with different players.
“I don’t know whether he’s doing that to find his best XI, but at some point you need to get into a bit more of a consistent starting line up that you feel works best.
“Let’s see what happens in the coming games and if he keeps chopping or changing. We can only wait and see, but Marcus has been in and out of the team and it doesn’t help him.”
A possible summer transfer
According to The Telegraph, the Manchester United forward is now battling to save his Old Trafford career.
The report reveals that United were willing to sell him during the summer and remain open to offers, as his departure could help the club address their profit and sustainability challenges.
It is suggested that concerns over his off-field lifestyle are impacting his on-pitch performances, despite him scoring three goals in Rúben Amorim’s first five matches in charge.
While The Telegraph did not specify a price tag, potential moves to Saudi Arabia or French side Paris Saint-Germain have been mentioned for 2025, and other reports from the summer indicated that United see his market value at around £80 million.
