Edson Alvarez’s performance against Wolves proved that West Ham need to be looking at cashing in on him.
The 27-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Hammers this season, with four of those being from the bench as well as missing two games through suspension.
Although Julen Lopetegui’s side have been struggling this term, their 2-1 win against Wolves on Monday [9 December] secured the Spaniard’s job – at least for now – amid growing pressure of the axe.
However, despite getting the three points, Alvarez stook out as a disappointment and his general performances are a concern.
West Ham need to cash in on Edson Alvarez and upgrade
Despite making 31 appearances for the Irons last season, Alvarez has failed to replicate his form this campaign and, in a struggling side, he is standing out as one player who is not living up to his potential on the pitch.

The defensive midfielder’s performance against Wolves was no different as, despite playing 88 minutes of the game before being substituted, he struggled to have too much impact at either end of the pitch.
According to Fotmob, the 27-year-old only had 39 touches of the ball throughout the game. The Mexican’s one long ball attempt was not accurate and he only won one of the tackles he made.

Although he did slightly better in his defensive duties, he only won 57% of his ground duels and while this may have been acceptable against a different side, it’s worth remembering that the Hammers were playing relegation-threatened Wolves and therefore, you’d expect a higher level of performance from a player we know can play well.
The 27-year-old has already been linked to a move to Milan (Caught Offside) and failed to rule out his interest meaning it could be in the Hammers’ interest to sanction a move and upgrade their midfield options.
