Arsenal considering move for Serie A striker

Arsenal will hope to move a step closer to qualification for the Champions League knockout stages when they host French side Monaco on Wednesday.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit 10th in the group phase table, but victory over Ligue 1 side Monaco would move them into the top eight, where sides qualify automatically for the next round.

Domestically, the Gunners have seen their chase for a first Premier League title in more than two decades somewhat derailed in recent weeks.

A run of inconsistent results has left Arteta’s side third in the top flight standings, six points behind leaders Liverpool who also boast a game-in-hand over their rivals.

Arteta could look to bolster his squad next year, either in the January transfer window or at the end of the season.

With that in mind, it appears that the North London side are pursuing a move for a Serie A striker.

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are monitoring Bologna forward Santiago Castro, 20.

Castro has attracted interest from both Arsenal and Newcastle

The report claims that both Arsenal and Premier League rivals Newcastle United have shown interest in the striker, who joined Bologna from Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield in January.

Since his move to Italy, the Argentine has scored six goals and registered seven assists in 28 matches across all competitions.

It is claimed that Arsenal have scouted the youngster in recent weeks and remain interested in him, having previously monitored him earlier this year.

The Argentina Under-23 international has also attracted interest from Newcastle United, Everton and Aston Villa, while Italian clubs Juventus and Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on the player.

Castro is under contract with the Italian side until 2028, but the report suggests that Bologna could be willing to sell him for a fee in the region of £33 million.
