2024 has seen Crystal Palace and Newcastle linked through transfer rumours and now the Magpies could be looking to sign one player the Eagles have also been keen on.
Summer 2024 saw Crystal Palace sell Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, a move which left Oliver Glasner woefully short on the right side of the attack.
Dougie Freedman failed to hand Glasner an adequate replacement of similar skill and talent – which has impacted the attacking output this season, all while Olise rips up the Champions League.
However, immediately upon the sale, Crystal Palace were linked with the likes of Antonio Nusa who would have been a perfect replacement.
But there was another elite option suggested, although he is now the target of Newcastle in January.

Newcastle now target Johan Bakayoko
In September, Crystal Palace were linked with PSV Eindhoven’s exciting winger Johan Bakayoko who has long been desired by Premier League clubs.

The Eagles had lined up Bakayoko as a possible signing in the event Eberechi Eze was sold in the summer, while he was expected to cost £38m.

Now though, it is Newcastle who are reportedly turning up the heat for the Belgian winger.
According to a report from The Telegraph, Eddie Howe’s side really like Bakayoko and is expected to pursue a deal in January.
This comes as Newcastle fear losing Harvey Barnes and Bruno Guimares – who is the subject of Manchester City’s interest.
If Newcastle are in the running it spells bad news for Steve Parish and co. if the Eagles were preparing a subsequent swoop.
Crystal Palace might have missed chance to sign PSV winger
If Bakayoko is on the list for 2025, chances are interest from Saudi-backed Newcastle will see the Eagles struggle to compete financially.
This shows why it was so important for Freedman to sign an elite replacement with high potential in the summer rather than attempting to find cheaper replacements.
However, with Newcastle being interested perhaps they will spend their budget trying to sign Marc Guehi once again which would then open the door for the Eagles to sneak in.
However, with Romain Esse and Rayan Cherki looking high on the shortlist, perhaps the Eagles have already moved on from Bakayoko.
