There are no new arrivals expected at FC Barcelona in the upcoming winter transfer window, and the operations that the Blaugranes will be pushing to complete in January will mainly be those for the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Thus, it is highly unlikely that the Catalans will reinforce their flanks, which have been left weakened since the end of the last season as Joao Cancelo and Marcos Alonso left the club last summer.
This season, Hansi Flick has Hector Fort and Gerard Martin as his replacements for the starting duo of Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde on the flanks. However, the lack of experience of these two players makes it quite a risky bet for Barcelona, as they are competing for all the big trophies this season.
Although the Blaugranes are not expected to sign a new fullback in January, SPORT notes that Deco is still keeping his eyes on the market and gathering information to assess the options that can be of interest in the next summer transfer window.
There is currently a long list of players on the club’s agenda for these positions. For the right flank, one of the players they are monitoring is the Spaniard Marc Pubill, who was already linked with Barcelona last summer.
Similarly, there is also Ivan Fresneda who was linked with the Catalan club back in 2023 but ultimately signed for Sporting Lisbon that year.
The Catalans are also following the Ajax fullback Devyne Rensch, whose contract with the Dutch club is ending at the end of this season. Similarly, Vanderson is another interesting option for the Blaugranes, as he has already been likened to one of their legends, Dani Alves.
For the left flank, the most high-profile name linked with Barcelona has been the Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies. While he might prove to be too expensive for the Blaugranes, even with Hansi Flick’s ability to convince him to choose Barcelona if his contract with the Bavarian club runs out this summer.
Similarly, Monaco’s Caio Henrique, is another interesting and experienced option, whom the Catalans can get on a loan with a purchase option.
The Blaugrana club is also keeping a close eye on the development of Alex Valle, who is performing at a high level with Celtic on loan, but more aged options like Nicolas Tagliafico are ruled out as the club is looking to sign players who can play at the highest level for at least three years.
