Romano confirms it’s one player’s ‘final months in red’ after learning of ‘impossible’ role…

Manchester United will invite Ruben Amorim to give his verdict on the six players approaching the end of their contracts in 2025.

Amad Diallo, Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Tom Heaton are all in the final year of their deals at Old Trafford. Of the sextet, only Amad and Maguire have one-year options available to exercise, with the former already locked in talks over an improved, long-term contract.

The need to get rid of deadwood combined with INEOS’ desire to keep the squad young and fresh means fans can expect to bid farewell to the remaining four Reds. Evans and Heaton may look to hang up their boots (and gloves) entirely, while Eriksen and Lindelof have already been linked with various clubs across Europe who are keen on acquiring them as free agents.

Eriksen has fallen entirely out of favour under Amorim

Eriksen has seemingly failed to impress Amorim in his opening matches. The midfielder started his maiden game away to Ipswich Town and played 68 minutes of the 1-1 draw. However, he has yet to feature for even a minute in the subsequent four games since then.

After the trip to Portman Road, Alan Shearer claimed he and Casemiro were navigating ‘impossible’ roles under the new head coach, primarily because they weren’t able to match the intensity required of them in Amorim’s newly implemented system.

“For a start, he’s (Amorim) got injuries in midfield, hasn’t he? I mean, he played Casemiro and Eriksen,” the ex-Magpie told the panel.

“It would be nigh on impossible for those two to do what he wants in terms of the press and the high energy and the sprint and the running and everything else.”

Alas, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the 32-year-old Dane is now overseeing his ‘final months in red’. There is no chance that United offer him an extension before the summer, meaning he can open talks with foreign clubs and sign a pre-agreement from January.

🚨👋🏻 Manchester United plans remain clear with Christian Eriksen, expected to leave the club in 2025.
