Manchester United ace Alejandro Garnacho opened up about playing alongside Lionel Messi for Argentina. The 20-year-old is trying to establish themselves in the national team and hopes to represent them at the 2026 World Cup.
Garnacho played alongside the legendary forward for only 42 minutes in two games for the national team, against Australia and Paraguay. He shared his experience with the Inter Miami forward, telling GOAL:
"For me, playing for Argentina and with Messi is a dream. I have to keep working [and] try to play better and better. I was at the Copa America with all the team. I didn’t play too much but just being around these players and winning the Copa was an incredible moment. Hopefully, for the next World Cup, I will be ready to play, and we will try to win.”
Garnacho is one of the few lucky footballers who has played alongside both Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He played six games with the Portuguese superstar for Manchester United and combined with him for one goal.
When Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez opened up about playing alongside Lionel Messi for Argentina
Earlier this year in June, Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez shared his experience of playing alongside Lionel Messi for the Argentina national team. The Argentine legend is a beloved figure in his nation, leading the South American side to two Copa America and a World Cup title.
Martinez has played 22 times with Messi for the national team and won the World Cup and two Copa Americas with the Inter Miami forward. Speaking ahead of the 2024 Copa America tournament in the United States, the defender said (via ESPN):
“He’s very calm, more than anything he’s enjoying the day-to-day. It’s beautiful to be here, we all have a great relationship. When one is here, one is very happy. We feel at home, which is important. We see him happy, and with an impressive level. That’s what I can tell you.”
