Manchester United on the cusp of sealing £3m move for 17-year-old wonderkid linked to Arsenal: Reports

Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign Arsenal target Diego Leon as we near the January transfer window. An update from Fabrizio Romano says that the Red Devils are in active talks with the youngster's club Cerro Porteno, who play in the first division in Paraguay.

It isn't surprising to see Ruben Amorim and company eye a move for the left-sided full-back, given the number of injuries they have seen in this area. The likes of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have constantly struggled for fitness, leaving the Red Devils short of options in this position.

Speaking about Manchester United's links with Leon, Romano wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter):

"Manchester United are in active talks with Cerro Porteno for 17 year old left back Diego León as talent for the future. Similar to Sekou Koné deal last summer, Man Utd keep looking at talents from abroad and $4m deal is being discussed also with Leon’s agents."

He could be a cheap acquisition, with Romano claiming that the defender will be available for as little as £3 million. However, the Red Devils may have to fend off threats from their Premier League rivals Arsenal, who were said to be close to a move for Leon in October (via TeamTalk).

Coming to the Emirates may not suit the player due to the amount of competition over there. Riccardo Calafiori is seen as the first choice in this role, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney serve as capable replacements. Moreover, Jurrien Timber could be deployed there too.

Jonathan David

Arsenal and Manchester United are said to be interested in a move for Lille striker Jonathan David in the summer transfer window. However, they could be facing stern competition from their Premier League rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, for the Canada international's signature.

This is according to TBR Football, who say that the player is likely to leave his French employers once his contract runs out in the summer (via The Hard Tackle). David has been on fire this season, having netted 17 goals and bagged three assists in 23 appearances across competitions.

A move to Arsenal may seem the most tempting of the lot, with the Gunners currently using a makeshift number nine in Kai Havertz. It looks like they will offer Champions League football next season, with the club currently sitting third in the Premier League standings.
