Lisandro Martinez could be sold this summer

Manchester United are prepared to cash in on Lisandro Martinez next summer, with only three players currently not up for sale.

Martinez has been a key player for United since making the move to Old Trafford from Ajax in 2022 and the defender also won the Qatar World Cup with Argentina. However, United are willing to sell Martinez amid interest from Real Madrid.

Madrid, having a desperate time with injury issues in defence, are tracking the 26-year-old and United do not view him as unsellable, with young stars Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo the only players they are desperate to keep, according to a report from talkSPORT.

Madrid are also said to be interested in Cristian Romero as they look to strengthen their backline. Martinez has started every game he has been available for under new boss Ruben Amorim so far and he has spoken highly of the 39-year-old's approach.

"It's the way I like to play, the way of playing football: the passion, the energy," Martinez told the United matchday programme ahead of their 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest. "You know, if you have that with me, it's like you connect quickly.

"He has many, many good things. I think he demands what the club demands, which is good. I like his passion, his energy, the way he wants to play - good in possession, in defending. I think he's good - also the staff, the energy around [the place], it [has been] so good, yeah."

Martinez also said he "feels great" playing in Amorim's favoured 3-4-2-1 system, adding: "It's with three in the back but, during the game, you have principles. Sometimes you are with four at the back, you are sometimes with five.

"It depends how they attack, how we attack, how we are in defence. But yeah, I like it. I like the intensity, I like the energy. I like, for example, how he wants to play in possession and without possession as well. So, yeah, I feel great in this system."

United currently sit 13th in the Premier League, having picked up just 19 points from 15 games so far this season, and they are set for a busy festive period with six games set to be played across 18 days before the end of the year.
