Bloodborne's fans really thought this was going to be their year, but it appears they'll be waiting a little while longer yet.

The action game has been stuck on the PS4 since it launched in 2015, with no PS4 Pro or PS5 patch in sight, and fans have been hoping The Game Awards might bring good news about a return to Yharnam.

Sadly, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has confirmed that while he's mentioned "big announcements" at the showcase on a recent appearance on the Kinda Funny Games Daily podcast, these aren't to do with Bloodborne – boo!

Don't expect Bloodborne at The Game Awards

Speaking on the show, Schreier had said "I know of a couple of announcements there that definitely qualify as big announcements."

"That said, big announcements are games that won't be out for years. I think there's a good chance you'll see one or two teaser trailers for a game that is like 2026 or even later."

That got fans excited, but the man himself has since shut down a comment on Reddit saying "I think it might really be Bloodborne this time" with a simple "It's not" - ouch.

Still, as Sony's 30th Anniversary video said, it's all about persistence. Wondering why the original game is so revered? Be sure to check out our full explainer.
