Mohamed Salah breaks new ground in Liverpool folklore; another record in the bag

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah continues to break records after scoring the winning penalty goal against Girona amid the contract saga. The Reds beat Girona 0-1 in the sixth Champions League game to remain at the top of the competition’s table.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot put a strong team against the Spanish club on Tuesday despite the lack of incentives. However, the players conserved their energy and dictated most of the game despite facing good resistance from the home side.

Luis Diaz earned a penalty in the 59th minute of the game through a foul by Donny van de Beek. Salah converted the penalty which eventually acted as the sole winning goal for the Reds to secure another comfortable victory.

According to Football on TNT Sports, Salah is the first Liverpool player to reach 50 goals in European competitions after scoring a penalty against Girona. The 32-year-old is playing in the last season of his current contract at the club with the negotiations still ongoing.

Salah earns £350,000 gross per week through his current contract and his age is a major factor during the negotiation. Liverpool have a strong policy that stops them from giving lucrative long-term contracts to ageing players, negating the financial risks.

However, the Egypt captain is a perfect anomaly and his strong relationship with the fanbase is another major positive factor. With fans eagerly awaiting the 32-year-old to sign the new contract, Salah has continued to reward them with impressive contributions.
