Manchester United keeping tabs on 29-year-old Serie A mainstay ahead of potential move: Reports

close

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Mike Maignan, according to Fichajes.net. The French goalkeeper has been outstanding for AC Milan in recent times, but his contract at San Siro expires at the end of next season.

Maignan has registered six clean sheets from 19 games across competitions this season. The 29-year-old's efforts have already turned heads at multiple clubs across the continent.

The Red Devils are also among the list of his suitors and are considering a move next year. The Premier League giants invested heavily on Andre Onana in the summer of 2023, but he hasn't been entirely convincing so far.

The Ivorian goalkeeper had a debut season to forget, letting in 83 goals from 51 games and registering 13 clean sheets. He has fared better this season, registering seven clean sheets in 21 games.

However, Manchester United are planning for squad reinforcements and a new goalkeeper is apparently on the agenda. The Red Devils are apparently eyeing an upgrade on Onana and have identified Maignan as the ideal candidate for the job.

The interest from the English giants has forced AC Milan into action. The Italian club have no desire to let Maignan go and are already planning to tie him down to a new deal.

Milan are ready to offer him a contract that reflects his importance in the team. However, Manchester United are planning to test their resolve by submitting a lucrative offer next summer.

Will Manchester United sign a new left-back in 2025?

Manchester United could be tempted to sign a new left-back in 2025 following Luke Shaw's recent setback. The Englishman has struggled with injuries of late and is currently sidelined once again.

Shaw has registered just three appearances across competitions for the Red Devils this season, all of which were from the bench. Tyrell Malacia recently returned to action after missing almost 18 months due to injury.

The Premier League giants have struggled in the absence of a specialist left-back, and are eager to make amends in January. Recent reports have suggested that they have set their sights on Alphonso Davies.

The Canadian speedster's contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of this season and he hasn't signed an extension yet. Real Madrid are apparently hot on his heels and are planning a Bosman move next summer. However, it now appears the Manchester United are also looking to sit with Davies in January to discuss a summer move.
