Alexander Isak transfer truth revealed as Premier League rule key to £115m Arsenal deal

Newcastle United could lose Arsenal-linked Alexander Isak as they remain under pressure to sell players to avoid breaching Premier League spending rules. The 25-year-old has been a shining light for the Magpies over these last couple of years and his goal-scoring record speaks for itself.

In fact, Isak, who joined Newcastle for a club record fee of £63million in August 2022, has scored an impressive 42 goals in 82 appearances on Tyneside, averaging less than a goal every other game. Last season, the Swede finished third in the Premier League scoring charts with only Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer ahead of him.

Isak has not been as prolific this term, but he's still managed to score six times in 13 top-flight matches, including two in his last two. The 25-year-old scored a stunning long-range goal against Liverpool last Wednesday - before also finding the net during Newcastle's defeat at Brentford on Saturday.

Having been linked with a move to Arsenal over the past few transfer windows, there has been some talk that the Gunners could go back in to sign Isak. And according to talkSPORT, Newcastle are still facing the prospect of selling star players to ensure they comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

It's reported that Newcastle fear losing Isak and Bruno Guimaraes - perhaps their two most lucrative assets - to avoid breaching spending regulations. The Magpies sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh for significant fees this summer and they are expected to have to cash-in on more players in 2025.

Arsenal didn't sign an out-and-out striker this summer and instead decided to stick with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as their recognised No.9 options. However, the Gunners could re-evaluate that idea and sign a new centre forward with Isak - who is valued at over £115million - among those linked with a high-profile move.

Speaking on his future last month, Isak distanced himself from transfer rumours. "Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season," Isak told Swedish publication Fotbal Skanalen. "There have been many such years where it has been talked about.

"It doesn't affect me. I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else."
