Napoli Make Ridiculous Kiwior Move

Whilst all Arsenal eyes right now are trained on our results as we look for further improvement in our performance levels, and particularly our mini drought when it comes to scoring from open play, there are also potential incomings to consider when we hit the New Year and the January transfer window opens.

As preparations for our Champions League clash with Monaco continue ahead of the midweek kick off, Gunners fans can also probably expect a departure or two next month and one of those departures looks highly likely to be Jakub Kiwior.

The 24 year old defender made the switch to us from Serie B side Spezia Calcio in January 2023 and he has gone on to make 50 appearances across all competitions for us since then, and whilst his versatility has proven to be a huge bonus for us, with him filling in for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of defence, he has also been admirable cover at full back, and now Italian Serie A side Napoli are sniffing around his services.

With only two Premier League starts to his name so far in the 2024/25 campaign, it has been reported that he is growing frustrated with his lack of action and his role as a bit part player and understudy under manager Mikel Arteta and that he is now looking to move on, not least to protect his international standing for Poland with him already gaining 31 full caps.

If recent reports are to be believed, Napoli have now shown their hand and made quite an insulting £12.5 million opening offer for the player. Given we are believed to have initially paid in the region of £20 million for him, this has obviously been rejected out of hand and they will need to come back with a far improved offer as we are incredibly unlikely to let him go without at least breaking even here.

Their offer is also curious from the point of view that although Italy had been the claimed most likely destination, it was strongly believed that we would allow him to move out on loan for the second half of the season to get a good run of game time under his belt, but that we then wanted him back next season to challenge for a first team spot again as he remains under contract until the summer of 2028.

We will have to see if Napoli return for him, but both Juventus and Inter Milan have been previously namechecked with having an interest in him, so if we do agree to a sale, we will undoubtedly use a mini bidding war to our favour.
