Wolves are in desperate need of change as the Old Gold sit comfortably in the relegation zone.
Gary O’Neil’s job is at risk due to Wolves’ dire start to the 2024/25 campaign, carrying their form from the season prior into the new calendar.
Wolves fans have seen enough of O’Neil however, the club have an opposing stance and are willing to give the Englishman more time.
The Old Gold’s hierarchy accept that O’Neil is not solely to blame for Wolves’ recent downfall and so, the 41-year-old is set to stay put for the foreseeable future.

Premier League appeals to Wolves candidate Massimiliano Allegri
Despite showing trust in O’Neil for the moment, it’s understood that there will be a change at the top in the future.
This is because it’s surfaced that Wolves sounded out five managerial candidates to replace the Englishman during the November international break.
Wolves fans were shocked when learning of the five candidates, with there also a great feeling of frustration due to the lack of desire to manage under Fosun.
One figure considered to replace O’Neil was former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, who is a manager regarded highly in Europe.

Having won six Serie A titles, Allegri would be a dream candidate for many and in different circumstances, Wolves might have presented the ideal job for the Italian.
“I would like to experience the Premier League,” Allegri told The Times back in 2020, sharing his verdict on the English game.
“England now is more sophisticated, and more tactical, but it is also respecting the tradition of English football.
“It is a good balance of the spirit of English football and the new quality and tactical approach of the coaches.”
It’s a suckerpunch for Wolves considering that Allegri was one of five candidates to bat away the Old Gold’s project, turning away from Fosun’s running of the club.
Allegri’s managerial achievements
Wolves’ defensive record under O’Neil is one of the worst in Europe, which is one of many reasons why Allegri could have been the perfect hire.
O’Neil also has a terrible win percentage at Wolves, which is something Allegri can’t relate to when reflecting on his managerial career in Italy.
Allegri’s big wins in Europe
6 x Serie A winner
3 x Italian Super Cup winner
5 x Italian Cup winner
2 x Champions League runner-up
4 x Italian Manager of the Year
Allegri’s spells at Juventus showered the Bianconeri with silverware, marking his territory as one of the most successful coaches in the history of Italian football.
It doesn’t take an explanation to speculate why Wolves would be attracted to a coach like Allegri and sadly, the same goes for why the Italian turned down working under Fosun’s reign.
