Randy Moss’ Health Issues Are None Of Our Business

On Tuesday night, a bit of controversy broke out on social media about the health of Minnesota Vikings legend Randy Moss. Moss, as we talked about a week or so ago, is dealing with undisclosed health issues that he addressed on ESPN’s NFL Countdown show before announcing he was taking a leave of absence from the show to deal with those issues.

Well, for whatever reason, Twin Cities media figure Larry Fitzgerald Sr. thought he would take the opportunity to disclose those issues.

66th NFF Hall of of Fame Ceremony here in Las Vegas just heard that Vikings HOF Randy Moss has liver cancer.Let’s show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this. .I love you Randy.

Fitzgerald put the news out there that he “heard” that Moss was battling liver cancer. Thus far, he is the only person that who has said this. This led to a flood of people expressing their support for Moss.

Regardless of whether this diagnosis is true or not, I can’t emphasize enough what an absolute jerk move this is by the elder Fitzgerald. If Randy Moss wanted us to know exactly what was going on with him health-wise, he had an opportunity to do so on an ESPN show that garners a much larger audience than Fitzgerald’s platform on Twitter/X does. But he chose to keep it vague, which is his right, and frankly it isn’t anyone else’s place to force the issue. When Moss is ready to tell everyone what’s happening with his health, I’m quite certain that he will let everyone know.

However, a more reliable source has now said that Fitzgerald’s report is not accurate. That source is Moss’ son, former NFL tight end Thaddeus Moss, who had this to say to Fitzgerald’s story.

This is disgusting. You have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of engagement. I do not believe my father talks to you , so check your fucking sources

In more polite terms, the younger Moss vehemently disagrees with Fitzgerald’s statement about his father’s health, going so far as to say that Randy Moss doesn’t actually communicate with Larry Fitzgerald Sr. about anything. Of these two, I have a strange feeling that Thaddeus Moss is the more reliable source. But, again, it isn’t the place of Larry Fitzgerald Sr. or anyone else to put anything out there, whether it’s confirmed or merely speculative, about the health of Randy Moss.

In today’s environment, there’s a decision to be made about putting things out there between getting it first or getting it right. It appears that Larry Fitzgerald Sr. has chosen the former at the expense of the latter, much to his own detriment.

We’re all behind Randy Moss in his battle with whatever ailment it is that he’s dealing with. But, as of now, we don’t know what that ailment is, and it isn’t any of our business until Randy himself chooses to let us know. Hopefully there won’t be any more malicious speculation on this front going forward. In the meantime, the best thing any of us can do is continue to send positive thoughts towards the Moss family and hope that things turn around for him in short order.
