Darwin Nunez has sent a defiant message to Liverpool supporters as his scoring drought continues. The Uruguayan endured a difficult night in the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Girona on Tuesday.
The striker missed a couple of good chances against the La Liga outfit before being withdrawn after 71 minutes. He also only touched the ball 16 times and completed just four successful passes, with his ineffectual performance following on from another tough showing in last week’s 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.
In the absence of the injured Diogo Jota, the 25-year-old has started eight of Liverpool’s last 11 matches. However, he remains behind the Portuguese in the Reds’ scoring charts, and has returned just three goals so far this season.

Arne Slot defended the forward following his showing against Girona, insisting that ‘he was a threat’. But that has not stopped a number of supporters from growing increasingly frustrated with the striker.
Having received criticism in some sections, Nunez has responded with a pointed barb on social media as he thanked fans for supporting him.

“They are not all, they are some,” he wrote on his Instagram story, accompanied by a picture of his clapping Liverpool’s travelling fans. “Thank you Reds for your support, we are all still together!”
Nunez also posted a love heart emoji and flexed arm emoji, with his latest social media post a rare one written in English.
Following his initial update with two pictures of the Liverpool team against Girona, first posing for a team picture and then gathered in their customary pre-match huddle, Nunez then wrote ‘Resiliencia’ (resilience) alongside a fourth picture of the forward from the game.

The 25-year-old has taken issue with backlash from supporters on social media before, having made headlines when deleting the majority of his Liverpool-related pictures and blocking certain fan accounts on Instagram last season.
Nunez does remain a firm fan-favourite at Anfield despite his recent struggles, with supporters regularly chanting his name during every appearance for the club.
