Georgia football still has the College Football Playoff in front of them this season, but that isn't stopping the transfer portal from taking center stage in the college football world. The portal has been open for a couple days now, and so far UGA hasn't lost anyone significant.
However, that all could change when Georgia's season eventually ends with a National Championship or loss in the CFP.
So as we wait for the season to end, Georgia fans are hoping that a few key players will still be on the roster next season. So here are five players that Kirby Smart and his staff need to ensure are still on Georgia's team next year.
Arguably the most important player that Georgia can't lose this offseason is running back Trevor Etienne. Etienne is in his first season at Georgia after transferring from Florida, and what a great season he has had so far.
So far this season, he has recorded 111 carries for 571 yards and nine touchdowns. Etienne has also added 28 receptions for an additional 168 yards through the air as well.
There likely isn't a chance that Etienne will enter the transfer portal again, but he does have the option to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Now Geoergia fans should never be upset if anyone enters the draft early, but selfishly it would be very nice if he did return to Georgia for one final season.
Etienne has proven to be the best running back on the roster. He has also shown that he is more than capable of showing up in the biggest games as he scored five touchdowns in the two games this season against Texas. So imagine how much better he could be next season with another offseason under his belt and if he is able to stay healthy. If that happens, he could very well become the best running back in the country.
