Manchester United’s Under-19s bowed out of the Uefa Youth League on Tuesday evening.
The academy side drew 0-0 with AZ Alkmaar at Old Trafford meaning they lost 2-1 on aggregate to the Dutch side.
AZ Alkmaar are one of the top young sides in Europe having won the Uefa Youth League as recently as the 2022/23 season.
Manchester United’s Under-19s dominated possession across both legs but were unable to break down their opponents on Tuesday night.
Ineos have hired new youth staff at United as they continue to focus on producing upcoming stars at Carrington. Adam Lawrence was promoted to coach the Under-18s and he was impressed with what he saw from his side on Tuesday evening.

Tyler Fredricson and Louis Jackson were ‘excellent’
While United struggled to break down a well-organised AZ backline, the defence was superb and drew well-deserved praise from Lawrence after the full-time whistle.
Speaking to MUTV after the match, Lawrence singled out Tyler Fredricson and Louis Jackson for their efforts at the back.
“I thought the two centre-backs, Tyler Fredricson and Louis Jackson today, I thought they were excellent,” Lawrence said.
MORE UNITED STORIES
“In terms of knowing where the opposition threat was and the transitions, they’ve obviously got some good players in the top line, some good 1v1 players who can hurt you.
“They obviously did have some good opportunities but I thought on the whole in terms of defending the counter and getting possession we did enough.”
Fredricson and Jackson started in a centre-back duo ahead of Godwill Kukonki, who has impressed Ruben Amorim.
Man United have a ‘dynasty’ of youngsters
There are several youngsters in United’s academy who look on an inevitable track to the first team.
Chido Obi has been superb for United’s academy teams since joining in the summer – he came on as a substitute on Tuesday night.
