William Gallas has claimed that Arsenal remind him of Tottenham. The 47-year-old former centre-back admitted that the Gunners are 'slipping up when you don't expect them to' - something he says that Spurs have 'always done'.
Mikel Arteta's side have been inconsistent in the Premier League so far this season. The Gunners sit third in the table but have won just eight of their opening 15 matches, picking up 29 points from a possible 45. Although that is not a terrible total, they sit six points behind leaders Liverpool, having played a game more.
Arsenal dropped points at Fulham on the weekend - a result that has pegged them further back in the race for the title. Having also dropped against Brighton, Bournemouth and Newcastle earlier in the season, Gallas believes he now sees the Gunners as the new Tottenham due to their inconsistent nature.
Former Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea defender Gallas told Prime Casino: "It's always the same problem with Arsenal; they put in good performances and win against big teams and then drop points when it really matters, when they had the chance to close the gap on Liverpool.
"The question is why because this has happened over the last three seasons, you have to ask what is going wrong with Arsenal. It's the same problem every year and is it because the players aren't good enough? The manager can't seem to find the solution to find three points in that sort of game against Fulham.
"Arsenal are starting to remind me of Tottenham, sometimes they slip up when you don’t expect them too, Spurs have always done that but Arsenal haven't."
In order to solve their issues, Gallas has urged Arsenal to sign Newcastle forward Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates after impressing at St James' Park, with the Sweden international directly contributing to nine goals in 13 league appearances this season.
Gallas added: "Arsenal need a striker that suits the team and Alexander Isak would be a good fit. He’s a player that is powerful, he understands the game, he’s good technically, he wants to participate.
"The problem for Arsenal is that he won’t be cheap and it might take time for him to settle. That’s why they had to do their business in the summer. The chance has gone now. I think not signing a striker in the summer has cost Arsenal, they would be in Liverpool’s position at the top of the table otherwise."
