Aston Villa announce departure of manager De Pauw

Aston Villa have announced the departure of manager Robert de Pauw.

The Villans announced the news via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

The 43-year-old Dutchman arrived at Aston Villa in the summer off the back of a successful spell in charge of German club Bayer Leverkusen. De Pauw was tasked with building on the success brought to Aston Villa by former boss Carla Ward.

Under De Pauw’s leadership, Aston Villa put in some promising performances, especially against some of the top sides in the Barclays Women’s Super League, however, wins were hard to come by. De Pauw leaves the Midlands club after guiding them to just one win in nine league outings; that victory coming against Crystal Palace at Villa Park prior to the international break.

The final game of De Pauw’s tenure saw Aston Villa go down 4-0 at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. De Pauw was left frustrated by his side’s performance in North London.

Aston Villa have put Shaun Goater in charge of first team affairs on an interim basis. He will take charge of the team for this evening’s Women’s League Cup group stage match against Charlton Athletic at The Poundland Bescot Stadium.
