"It Has Been Tough": West Ham Boss Lopetegui Shares Relief After Crucial Wolves Win

West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has said that he is happy with his team’s performance against Wolves on Monday night.

The Hammers won 2-1 in a feisty affair where they took the lead from a Tomas Soucek header in the 54th minute.

However, Wolves hit back after 69 minutes as Matt Doherty scored the equaliser before Jarrod Bowen netted the winner just three minutes later.

It eased some of the pressure on manager Lopetegui who has been under scrutiny after poor recent results such as the 5-2 defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

The Hammers boss said that his side deserved to win against Wolves, despite the fact hat he wasn’t pleased with the way they began the game.

He told Sky Sports after the game: “The first half we don’t start well. We score a set-piece goal, always important. The team showed character and good mentality [after the equaliser]. To have this kind of mentality is going to help us achieve more points.

“We deserved to win, we had a lot of chances, a lot of corners. We overcame one bad moment.”

Lopetegui was quick to dedicate the win to striker Michail Antonio who was involved in a car crash over the weekend and is recovering in hospital.

He said: “We are happy, we dedicate the victory to Michail and his family. It has been tough the last days – the last week – the last days especially. Today the best thing we can do is get the victory for him.”

Lopetegui remains under pressure at West Ham

Despite the win against fellow strugglers Wolves, the Hammers manager remains under pressure as his side sit 14th in the Premier League.

It has been a poor start for a West Ham side who were expecting big things this season after a busy transfer window.

Former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter remains one of the favourites to replace Lopetegui at the London Stadium.

They are also reportedly considering former Porto manager Sergio Conceicao who won three league titles in Portugal.
