After three seasons with the Michigan football team, cornerback Will Johnson is headed to the next level. First reported by [Adam Schefter](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1866866377681760308), Johnson officially declared for the NFL Draft on Wednesday.
Joining the Wolverines in 2022 as the top-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan, Johnson made an immediate impact his freshman year. He appeared in all 14 games as a defensive back and special teams contributor with five starts at cornerback, recording 27 tackles with two for loss and three interceptions.
It was Johnson’s sophomore year, though, that cemented him as one of Michigan’s biggest assets. Last season, Johnson appeared in 12 games and had 11 starts in the secondary. He made 27 tackles and snagged four interceptions — one returned for a touchdown — while adding eight pass breakups on the season.
With an interception and four pass breakups as starting cornerback in the 2023 National Championship, Johnson earned the title of Defensive MVP. His season-long campaign also landed him on the All-Big Ten consensus first team, one of many accolades thats also includes first team All-American honors.
This season was much quieter for Johnson. He only appeared in six games as he worked through a toe injury, sidelined for the last five matchups of the year, including the season-defining win over then-No. 2 Ohio State. Nonetheless, when healthy, Johnson is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the Draft.
Following a successful three-year career as a Wolverine, highlighted by his outstanding sophomore campaign, Johnson is turning the page and making the jump from Michigan to the NFL.
